Interview: Why Good Design Is Rooted In Linguistics

The President and Chief Creative Officer of Nooka talks about his techno-progressivist design philosophy. His firm follows a universal language that guides the creation of products with enhanced functionality to design products in non-traditional formats, such as watches without numbers. And he concludes “that truly good design is rooted in linguistics and not aesthetics”. As a semiotician, I jumped on the chair and I’d like to hear more of his thoughts on that: I’m not sure I agree with a primacy of linguistics over aesthetics, but that’s a novel position for a designer and I’m curious to know more about it
